First off, both the 6D and the 5D3 are great options on any level. Personally, I have shot with just about every major camera brand and I prefer Canon’s simplicity. Like many of our followers, most of my photography is landscape based. However, no matter what you are photographing, the same principles will apply.
Both cameras are capable of creating fantastic high quality photographs. With that being said there are a few main reasons I chose to go with the 6D:
- It’s smaller
- It’s lighter
- It’s significantly less expensive
Carrying around a tank of a camera just isn’t fun after awhile and who doesn’t like to save money. Actually, with the money you’d save by going with the 6D you could pay for a really nice wide angle piece of glass to go with it: Canon 16-35mm f/4 http://amzn.to/2n9v1ld.
Now, on the other side of the coin….if you photograph wildlife, sports or children I would probably recommend the 5D3 as it has more focus points, shoots more frames per second and has faster top end shutter speed. Since my subjects don’t move these benefits don’t make the added cost worth it in my opinion. For what I photograph the 6D just makes sense.
Here is a cool website that I like to use when deciding what gear to purchase: http://snapsort.com/compare. It compares gear and provides simplistic breakdowns of the different features and benefits.
Let us know if you are considering these options or made this decision in the past. I’d love to hear what you decided and why.
